Komban Movie Critic Reviews

Komban Stars Performance

The National award-winning Thambi Ramaiah is in his element providing the much-needed comic relief.

Kovai Sarala as Kombans frustrated and extremely vocal mother makes a welcome change from the over-sentimental mother figures Tamil cinema is so fond of.

The sincere Rajkiran is well cast, but Karunas is wasted in a pointless role.

Karthi gives a good performance, but definitely not in the league ofParuthiveeran, which was also set in a rural milieu.

Though her roles feel repetitive, Lakshmi Menon gives a commendable performance.

Veecharuvaas Secret

Theres a nice stretch where Komban admits hes made a mistake its the kind of pride-swallowing thing that must have been hell for him. But instead of milking these situations, the film keeps cutting to utterly generic (and unmemorable) villains. Their names dont matter. What they do doesnt matter. Theyre just there to give Komban excuses to flex his muscles and send more goons in bunched-upveshtis into orbit, reducing them to the deep-south version of lingerie models, the dust-caked streets their catwalk. Heres a suggestion for a brand name: Veecharuvaas Secret.

Another village based potboiler

1st thing first, there is not even a scene where there is any slur on any caste. All characters from same caste.Controversy?. Another village based potboiler - larger than life hero, a righteous guy at same time flexing his muscles against injustice. #Karthi highlight of the film, and does a neat job. He is good in romance, humour

Komban Technicalities

Engaging screenplay and fascinating narration by M. Muthaiah, smart bit of editing by Praveen KL and brilliant camerawork by Velraj makes Komban technically strong. Though the plot of the movie is not new to Tamil Cinema, the way it is put across with right mix of comedy, action, values of relationships and sentiments work wonders for Komban. While only a few songs make you to tap your foot, background score by G.V. Prakash helps the audience to connect with the movie and adds solidity to the film. In spite of making the movie interesting, one might feel the editor could

Komban Mass Entertainer with Necessary Ingredients

Kombaya Pandian (Karthi) is a butcher by profession and he leads his life by virtues which is a kind of relief for us because after a long time we are shown a hero who doesn't booze, smoke and most importantly he doesn't sing songs in bar or degrade the heroine. If anyone ill-treats women or cheats in business, Komban would certainly whack them for which he is celebrated by the Arasanadu village people. At one point of time, Komban falls in love with Palani (Lakshmi Menon ) and her father Muthiah (Rajkiran) too agrees for the marriage. But somehow our hero does not like Muthaih. There is also another parallel track where the villains badly want to murder both Rajkiran and Karthi which comes as the major play in the second half of the movie which leads to a weak climax that looks more like a staged drama.

Cooler Entertainer for Summer Vacation

Similarities often prevail among the village based rural stories, where every dialogue style, the thick bearded herculean biggies with lungis rolled up. Quite an inevitable factor, we have been witnessing on the screens for the past few years, which needed a remedy. Komban, to a surprise, is a great exception and filmmaker Muthaiah has felt the need to portray everything with precise depiction. One more fallible thing that we’ve been constantly facing with the rural genres is the stereotypical ingredients that have ‘Violence’ alone as the backdrop.
