Dream of Slum Childrens

The film revolves around the lives, hopes and dreams of two youngsters, Periya Kaaka Muttai (Vignesh) and Chinna Kaaka Muttai (Ramesh) living in the slums of Chennai.

A swanky pizza joint opens near their slum. Actor Simbhu is invited for the inauguration, and the children become obsessed with the tempting pizza that is served to him.

At first, they decide to earn the Rs 300 needed for the pizza but it seems like a distant dream. So they resort to stealing and other ingenious tricks like ferrying drunkards from the bar to their homes.

Soon they have enough money for the pizza; unfortunately, their clothes are not good enough for the fancy restaurant. Did the children give on their dreams??watch it on big screen.

A Beautiful Economy Story

3.5/5

Kaaka Muttais humour camouflages the pain of the lads and the brutality of class distinction. One does not fail to notice the iron fencing which separates them from a rich boy whom they befriend, and their conversations often centring on the elusive pizza and sometimes on the swanky watch he sports underline the pathos of Indias have-nots. Another plus point is the helmers ability to etch each character with care: the father in the jail and his longing to see his sons who are not allowed in because he is in a tuberculosis ward, the grandmother and her little effort to make a pizza out of a dosai and the mother herself, an epitome of dignity and restraint, are superbly three dimensional. A beautiful economy of words and excellent camerawork (Manikandan) further enrich Kaaka Muttai. At 98 minutes, it is neatly packed.

Entertaining and Gloomy

3.5/5

Kaakka Muttai is appealing in many ways. The primary factor is its non-judgmental tone. In a film like this which is basically about the have-nots, there are many possibilities to paint the s in a villainous color like how it is generally done. But, Manikandan not having resorted to this, has very skillfully revealed the economic divide without being in-your face types, conveying his ideas on the way. There is no melodrama, artificiality or high flung emotional scenes and the film rolls on smoothly. But there are sub-texts which when viewed with a different lens, will surface.
