நீண்ட இடைவெளிக்கு பிறகு மீண்டும் மாதவன், தனக்கே உரித்தான தனி ஸ்டைலில் நடித்து அசத்தியிருக்கிறார். இவர் படத்தில் பேசும் வசனங்கள் எல்லாம் அரசியல்வாதிகளுக்கும், இந்தியன் ஸ்போர்ட்ஸ் அசோசியேஷனுக்கும் சவுக்கடியாக இருக்கிறது. ஒருசில வசனங்கள் பேசும்போது மாதவனின் துடிப்பும், நடிப்பும் நம்மை உறைய வைக்கிறது. பெண் இயக்குனரான சுதா கொங்கராவுக்கு தமிழில் இரண்டாவது படம். தனது இரண்டாவது படத்திலேயே இவ்வளவு பெரிய கதையை தைரியமாக எடுத்து, அதை பக்குவமாக கையாண்டிருக்கிறார். இதற்காக அவரை பாராட்டலாம். அழகான திரைக்கதை, அழுத்தமான வசனங்கள் படத்தை தூக்கி நிறுத்துகிறது. தமிழில் பெண் இயக்குனர்களில் இவரது பெயர் நிலைத்து நிற்கும் என்று சொல்லலாம். சந்தோஷ் நாராயணன் இசையில் அமைந்துள்ள பாடல்கள் படத்தின் திரைக்கதையை பாதிக்காத வண்ணம் அமைந்திருப்பது சிறப்பு. பின்னணி இசையில் பட்டையை கிளப்பியிருக்கிறார். சிவகுமார் விஜயன் ஒளிப்பதிவும் அருமையாக இருக்கிறது.

Irudhi Suttru is one gem of a film that has been made on Indian screen. The film has so many amazing moments in it. The interval bang is so brilliant that you will be in the awe of the makers. The first half is amazing and is loud enough. The film has got a brilliant first half. Madhavan looks amazing on screen, and so is the tsunami in Ritika Singh who was the new found to the acting. She is Solid, sturdy knock out. The director Sudha Kongara presents a riveting boxing drama which keeps you pinned on the whole. From the beginning to the end, you will not feel any bored moments. This is Madhavans best performance by a mile, something never seen before. He will surely stun you and give you a pack of surprises in the film. The actress Ritika Singh, is too good being a debutant. Santhosh Narayans score and Sivakumar Vijayans frames add a lot of advantage to this punch. They are films additional assets.

Sudha Kongara Prasad, who made her Tamil debut back in 2010 through Drohi, hits the bulls-eye with this sports based drama. Though the second half might make you feel as though the screenplay is rushed somewhat, the first half is an absolute delight. Climax provides the icing on the cake, which makes the blemish in the second half ignorable. Thanks to Sivakumar Vijayans cinematography, the visuals look slick. The usage of his colours too, deserves a mention. Sathish Suriyas editing keeps the film crisp, staying true to its genre. One might feel he couldve used his virtual scissors more in the latter half of Irudhi Suttru. Santhosh Narayanan impresses with re-recording. His songs though sounds repetitive. Looks like the most happening musician is finding it hard to give up on some of his favourite tunes. Having said that, his BGM tickles your ear-drums, in a good way.

Whenever we come across a film directed by a woman, we tend to have preconceived notions that it would either be a mouthpiece for their genders upliftment or a soft mushy romance story. However with Irudhi Suttru Sudha Kongara takes the viewer completely by surprise with her sports drama riding on a love story told in a raw manner which makes for a pleasurable and emotionally moving viewing experience.The local flavour of North Chennai is captured well enough to rival the likes of Vetrimaaran and Ranjith. The training scenes are so realistic that the audience begin to feel the strain and that is credit to the maker.Every sportsman has a driving force that takes him to victory and for the reluctant Mathee it is her love for the older man which is convincingly told. The second half lags a bit which is easily forgiven when it leads to the riveting climax when we are enlightened about the feats of Indian Women Boxers.

There are many sport based films that come out every now and then which follows the trajectory of talent-struggle-triumph. But the challenge lies in turning this model into an interesting, engaging and entertaining product onscreen and in this domain, Sudha and her team emerges meritoriously. With an airtight screenplay, she keeps the audiences hooked to the proceedings throughout the duration they are in the theatre.For a film to work favorably with the viewer, apt casting and performance are the key words and Irudhi Suttru can brag about this aspect well enough. Right from Madhavan to Ritika Singh to the supporting cast, everyone has rendered their best performances.
