Devayani is a Tamil film actress. She starred in numerous Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films, along with a few Hindi films and one Bengali film. Her debut film was to be in the Hindi film Koyal, which was later cancelled during its production stage. She received Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for her performances in the films Kadhal Kottai and Surya Vamsam. She has also appeared in the films Bharathi, Friends and Azhagi as well a in the Sun TV series Kolangal.Devyani began her career as Sushma in a Bengali Film Shaat Ponchomi. She also acted in a Marathi Film before going to Tamil Nadu. Her earliest movies were released in the early and middle 90s including Kadhal Kottai.From 1996 to 2000 Devyani acted as heroine in over 35 films and acted with Prashanth (Appu), Ajith (Kadhal Kottai), Vijay (Friends), Sarath Kumar (Suryavamsam), Parthiban (Azhagi).She moved into supporting roles in Thenali though she still acted commercially until 2004-2005.She began acting in the teleserial Break Kolangal as Abhinaya which has had over 1500 episodes on Sun Television.Devayanis fathers name is Jayadev and her mothers name is Lakshmi. She has two brothers, Mayoor and Nakul, also an actor.She studied Bachelor of Commerce in National College at the Mumbai University. She married Rajakumaran on 9 April 2001. Devayani first met her husband when she was acting in Suryavamsham, when Rajakumaran was assistant director. She starred in Nee Varuvai Ena, Rajakumarans debut film. A daughter was born to the couple in 2006 and a daughter in 2008 (which was the reason for her trip to America written in to the script of the Tamil Serial Kolangal) She recently built a house named Kadhal Kottai.
