Mohan Biography

Mohan is a popular Kollywood actor. His actual name is Mohan Rao hailing from Udupi district of Karnataka. He derived his name Kokila Mohan by acting in film called Kokila. Mohan is a Popular Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada actor. Mohan is one of the top actors in the history of the Indian Cinema. Mohan was born in “Koteshwar” and grew up in I.T.I colony he completed his education at Bangalore. His father was a restaurateur who owned restaurants at various places in south of Karnataka and in Bangalore. No rise of a star has been as been quite as extraordinary or spectacular as that of Mohan. From 1978 to 1993, the Mohan phenomenon swept the Tamil movie world off its feet and the hysteria he generated was unlike anything seen before and after. As super hit followed by super hits the men and the women all over the country swooned over him, Mohan was the super star of that era who surpassed the two giants ”Kamal Hasan and Rajnikanth”. Mohan was the highest paid actor of his time who gave hits after hits continuously. At one point, three films of Mohan’s were released on the same day, at the same theater complex astoundingly all three ran for more than hundred days and created a record which has never been broken by any actors till date. Mohan’s films were competing against his own films during his days. In fact, Mohan’s entry into this field was accidental and sensational. Mohan was introduced in to the world of theater by the great “B.V. Karanth” and trained by the likes of the great “G.V.Iyer”. Mohan was spotted by “B.V.Karanth” at a restaurant and asked to join the theater group Mohan’s first stage play was raved by the critics from places like Delhi. Mohan was introduced to the cinema by the great “Genius Director Balumahendra” in his movie “Kokila” and the rest as we know is history. Mohan’s first film “Kokila” was a super hit and along with that a star was born. Mohan was catapulted into the limelight since 1978 and this ” Silver jubilee star” has become one of the biggest-grossing box-office stars of the Tamil movie land.. Mohan is called in the industry as the “silver jubilee star” because almost all movies featuring the actor witnessed a fantastic run. He holds the record in the industry for giving more than 25 silver jubilee hits, a feast not matched by many industry greats till date. Mohan is called in the industry as the “silver jubilee star” because almost all movies featuring the actor witnessed a fantastic run. He holds the record in the industry for giving more than 25 silver jubilee hits, a feast not matched by many industry greats till date. After the film “Kokila” Mohan stared in a Malayalam movie titled “Mathalasa” by the great cameraman “J.Williams” and the film was a super hit. Furthermore, immediately after the success of the Malayalam Movie, Mohan went on to sign a Telugu film titled “Thoorppuveli Railu” which was a re-make of a Tamil film “Kilakepogum Rail”. The Telugu version was directed by the “Genius Director Bapu” who is one of the great directors of India. This film was also a sensational hit of that time. After that Mohan was introduced in the Tamil film “Nenjathai killathey” by the “Great Genius Director Mahindran”. The film ”Nenjathai Killaadhey”, a masterpiece of director “Mahendran”, started a full scale peak career of Mohan. “Nenjathai Killaadhey” ran for a year, followed by “Kilinjalgal” by the “Great Geenius Director Durai” also ran for more than 25 weeks. Mohan’s sensational hit “Payanagal Mudivathillai” went on to run for 500 days. The movies which Mohan stared in since then were either silver jubilees or over 200 days most of the time. The brilliant trio-combination, “Genius Maestro‘Illayaraja, the Ggenius S. P. Balasubramanyam and the versatile actor Mohan “created history in the music world with hits after hits. Almost all of Mohan’s films had good musical albums (thanks to Maestro Ilayaraja and S.P. Balasubramanyam), which feature songs that are still remembered after 25 years. At the peak of his career, Mohan was not afraid to take up challenging negative roles in films like ”Nooravadhu Naal and Vidhi “(both were block busters in 1984). In addition, comedies like “Sahadevan Mahadevan and Rettai Vaal Kuruvi” (likewise block busters). In fact, Mohan played the role of a wonderful lover and husband in “Mouna Ragam” at the same time in “Rettaival kuruvi” he portrayed a husband who was cheating on his wife and ended up being with two wives. Both the films were mega hits and ran successfully at the same time. Thereafter till 1992, it looked like Mohan could do no wrong. Film after film swept the box-office. But there was more to him than just his mannerisms as he built an image of a gentle romantic. How ever, Mohan portrayed negative characters in the movies “Vidi, Nooravathu Nal, Nan ungal rasigan and December pookal”… and those films were super hits as well. The audience accepted Mohan as a hardcore romantic, villain as well as comedian. Mohan’s versatility as an actor in various roles was accepted by the public as well as the critics alike. Mohan always gave sensitive performances straight from the heart. “Payanangal Mudivathilla” saw perhaps his greatest ever performance as a singer and a man stricken with cancer. As Mohan went from strength to strength, even his guest appearance in “Nanpadum Padal” generated more hysteria. Mohan has worked with top heroines of the day like “Suhasini, Poornima, Radha , Amala, Radhika, Kushboo, Ambika, Revathi. Nalini, Nadiya, Jeyashree, Lizi, Archana”. Mohan was a major role in the lifetime of production company “Motherland Pictures”. Mohan gave his best performance in the movie “Mouna Ragam”, which won National Award for Best Tamil Film.

Indeed, I admired you as, one of the evergreen heroes of South Indian film industry. During my adolescence days, middle of 80', I found you the icon of Kolywood. Your body language and mannerisms are simply charismatic.. It is a very unique phenomenon to obseve... The style at which you manifest your emotions ... Especially facial expressions... the synchronisation of verbal delivery... unique indeed.. The history of Tamil film industry is incomplete without you sir. I thank you sincerely for all your contributions.. Wishing you good health and peace of mind.. Regards, A. John Jeya Kumar.
